Suki Waterhouse released new track, On This Love this week.
I’ve been a fan of Suki Waterhouse for YEARS. So I’m thrilled that she has seen support of her music grow so much in recent years. As an act that was, at times, dismissed as being “just a pretty face” by an industry that has long allowed only women who are exactly that to enter its golden circle, I’m delighted that her hard work is paying off and she is also being recognised for the talent she has (alongside her pretty face because she is stunning!)
On This Love, is very Lana-esque, but it’s also still distinctly Suki Waterhouse. It’s a more sultry serious sound that much of her past work and suggests she’s moving away from her pop princess persona into something more nuanced. There were glimmers of this sound on Memoir of a Sparklemuffin but it’s exciting to see her fully lean into something a little different. Having said that, I adore Lana but don’t really need a second one, so I hope she can still retain her own sound and not get swept away in this like we’ve seen with other singers in the past.
On This Love is about a love story that’s difficult to understand. The associated music video suggests it’s a song about a woman with a much older lover, but the themes could be extrapolated to many situations. The track touches on the complexities of this unconventional love, its imperfection, its challenges and its joys.
This is Suki’s second release this year. Dream Woman dropped In February and was the first track since September 2024’s Memoir of a Sparklemuffin. Suki has also recently enjoyed a residency at L.A.’s Roxy Theatre.
