I know 27th November isn’t a Monday, but this is where my week’s at so we’re rolling with it.
Annika Bennett – Still Pretty

I realise I haven’t stopped going on about Annika Bennett and Triple Shooting Star since it came out but I genuinely love it and if you’ve haven’t already listened Still Pretty is truly one song I’d want you to check out above all else this week. I’m very aware I haven’t championed an artist quite this hard in a good while, but I think this is possibly my favourite thing that’s come out this year (it’s close contender between this and Florence Welch at this stage) and I’m going to unashamedly own that! This beautiful folk ballad, etched with raw vulnerability will honestly leave a lasting impression.

Sunscreen -Blue Skies

I’ve been really enjoying the new album by Sydney ‘dream pop meets indie rock’ band Sunscreen – Everything You Gave Me and Blue Skies is one of my favourite songs on there. I really like the high pitched, airy vocals and the driving guitar at the forefront of the track. I think this one truly blends the sound they’re going for without leaning too far in either direction, so while the whole album is great, Blue Skies tells you what Sunscreen are about in a nutshell.

Nick Keogh – Let You Down

We had the pleasure of catching Nick supporting Lucky on the weekend, and we loved his indie-folk tunes. His latest release Let You Down tackles the conflict of waiting to keep someone close, whilst also worrying you’ll disappoint them. It’s got a great, catchy chorus – which really should be accompanied by a whistle track, it’s that kind of melody – and the song breaks into a gorgeous saxophone solo towards the end which, whilst unexpected, is a great way to wrap it up.

EJOY – Silly People

The latest release by Liverpool band EJOY blends the striking sound of Last Dinner Party with soulful 70s-inspired grooves. The striking vocals sit comfortably over a lazy, swing-style drum track, creating a fresh sound with just a hint of nostalgia. It’s only the groups second release, but I’m definitely here for more female leads in bands. The track stands out for its unique construction, mixing cinematic touches with indie drums and rich synth layers to create something that feels a little different from the usual.

Grace Cummings – Times Like These
Grace Cummings’ heartbreaking single, Times Like These featuring Jim James of my morning jacket is for anyone facing loneliness during the holiday season. “Times Like These is for somebody that needs some comfort and some love,” Cummings explains. This haunting, hymnal duet looks at how the holidays can be one of the loneliest times for many people. The track gently ebbs and flows, building to vocal and piano crescendos, before dipping back to softness.
