Straddling eastern and western sounds it combines pop influences with instruments and rhythms from Parissa’s Iranian culture to create an album that’s a unique window into her world. Telling the stories of displacement and longing for a home that’s no more, or one that never really was, it speaks to anyone who’s migrated or living across cultures. I’ve been eagerly awaiting RAYE’s sophomore album I’ve been eagerly awaiting RAYE’s sophomore album and I’m so glad This Music May Contain Hope turned out to be this good. The album is a journey, from darkness to light, across four seasons. It draws on wide influences including jazz, hip-hop and musical theatre and its such a wonderful, emotional and complex album. I’ll be amazed if this one isn’t on my short list for album of the year.
