Don’t look back in anger if you weren’t able to snag Oasis tickets this week. Instead, look forward to discovering these exciting bands that offer fantastic live experiences for a fraction of the price:
The K’s – Hailing from Earlstown, this classic indie guitar band has cultivated a loyal following over the past 7 years. Their debut album, I Wonder if the World Knows, dropped earlier this year and is a wonderful showcase for their energetic sound. They recently played at Leeds Festival and supported Blossoms, and they’re touring limited dates this year, so make sure to catch them live for a dose of vibrant indie rock.
The Lilacs – Recently signed to Manchester’s ‘Scruff of the Neck’ record label, The Lilacs bring a melodic, Courteeners-esque vibe to their music. Their catchy indie pop tunes are sure to resonate, and with a growing reputation they’re definitely a band to keep an eye on.
The Sherlocks – South Yorkshire four-piece The Sherlocks have been around for a little while and have enjoyed steadily growing success over the last few years. Known for their catchy riffs and engaging performances, Sherlocks are quickly becoming a staple in the indie scene. They’re just coming off the back of a heavy festival season, but with new single Death of Me recently released, I’m sure an upcoming tour won’t be far away.
The Lathums – Wigan’s The Lathums burst onto the indie scene in 2021 with their debut album How Beautiful Life Can Be. Their ability to blend contemporary indie with classic influences have them likened to both the Smiths and Arctic Monkeys, and their high energy live performances along with their unique take on the genre make them a popular choice amongst indie fans.
The Rosadocs – Hailing from Sheffield, the Rosadocs are a band on the rise. They sold out their first UK tour last year and have been impressing audiences with their poetic lyrics and softer indie rock sound. Tracks like No. 54 perfectly capture their storytelling style and emotional depth.
Corella – These Manchester icons are a long standing personal fave! Corella released their debut album Once Upon A Weekend last year. Their anthemic tracks Let On and Bloom are so catchy you’ll be certain you’ve heard them before, and their engaging live performances are not to be missed.
The Reytons – If you haven’t heard of The Reytons yet you might be living under a rock. Probably more well known than many on this list, this truly independent band is taking a stand against the mainstream music industry with their DIY ethos, and it’s working. Recently selling out a huge hometown show at Clifton Park and touring the world, The Reytons are another band with a loyal following and high energy crowds!
The Slow Readers Club – A classic Manchester band that I’ve been a long term fan of, The Slow Readers Club deliver a timeless indie/alt-rock sound. Their music is perfect for fans of the genre who appreciate thoughtful lyrics and compelling melodies, and their sing-a-long choruses will effortlessly draw you in. A band John Kennedy could see “playing stadiums in the future” they’re worthwhile checking out in a more intimate setting.
Sea Girls – Up there with one of the best live bands I’ve seen in a while, Sea Girls are a band I’ve had the privilege of watching grow. Their melodic, catchy hooks and choruses will be sure to charm you, while on stage they are energetic and engaging and easily one live band you definitely don’t want to miss.
The Royston Club – Bringing early 00s indie pop into the 20s, The Royston Club offers a nostalgic yet fresh sound. Think The Kooks meets The Wombats, with upbeat tunes that are perfect for dancing. Their catchy tracks make them a great choice for a lively night out.
So do yourself a favour and grab a ticket or two to check out some of the up and comers in the indie music scene next time they’re touring nearby (you can thank me when you get to be the person who says “I was there” in 20 years time!).
