The details…
We tried the bigville breakfast, the benny, and finished with the ricotta hot cakes. The rest of the breakfast menu combines the staples with the creative: the dairyfield and heirloom bruschetta stood out as something a little different. The breakfast dishes give way to larger lunch options over the page: going from healthy salads to chunky burgers. Stocksville remains busy even late in the day, so service has a necessary perfunctory vibe. However, the team are proud of what they’re doing here, and when they get a slight lull they’ll happily use their extra time to chat about your day or discuss their menu.
The bigville breakfast is big without being overwhelming. The chorizo jumps off the perfectly plated dish as do those hash browns – making a glorious contrast against the black. They even manage to make the mushrooms look good by bordering them on all sides with the rest of the meal. Taste-wise it’s the tomato relish that really makes this dish wow. The sweet/tangy flavour really pulls together every aspect of this very good breakfast. The mushrooms are done simply, yet well and the soft fluffy hash browns are just awesome. Added to this are the salty bacon, slightly spiced chorizo and two perfectly poached eggs – what’s not to love.
The eggs benny is beautifully stacked on top of the two chunky hash browns. Eggs are again perfect and popped to give that awesome drizzle of yolk porn. The hash are such a good choice, making it a lighter dish than if it came with the traditional toast. The pulled pork falls apart in your mouth and makes a nice flavour combo with the tart apple. Not overwhelmed with hollandaise and with a subtle chorizo crumb on the side, the devil’s in the details and Stocksville finished off this dish exquisitely!
The hotcakes are a stunner of a dish! Little pops of colour from the flowers and berries adorn to thick fluffy hot cakes drizzled with sweet sticky maple syrup and a huge dollop of ice-cream. The traditional pancake/maple combo just works and the huge ricotta pancakes will leave you very full! Overall we left Stocksville highly impressed.
