Meanwhile, in no particular order, here are the Suzie Scribbles top 5 albums of 2024!
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – Wild God

It’s mind-blowing to stop and think how much music Nick Cave has created over his career, and even more mind-blowing that this new album is still as creative, innovative and powerful as anything else he’s produced over his extensive time in the industry. The hymnal quality of the album and the subtle rise and fall of the individual songs infuse this record with a deep and resonant power whilst showcasing Cave’s unique abilities as a magnificent story teller. Opening track Song of The Lake, and the beautiful ballad Cinnamon Horses are my personal faves.

Lola Young – This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway

So it’s fair to say I’m obsessed with Lola Young. Obsessed. Her sultry sophomore album (I’m unsure if ‘Intro’ counts as an album as it’s 7 songs, so I’m classifying it as an EP) takes you on a journey of the complexities of being a young woman. It’s instantly relatable, effortlessly catchy and overall just a stunning way to watch someone grow into their artistry. Messy has to be the anthem of this album, but Big Brown Eyes is a personal fave.

Beyoncé – Cowboy Carter

It was the album that shouldn’t have worked. But Cowboy Carter’s success is a homage to Beyoncé’s immense talents. Think what you like but she got people who would never normally listen to country in a million years preppin’ to host a hoe down. It’s an enjoyable, fun album to listen to and when you think of sounds that define 2024 this has to be at the forefront. Texas Hold ‘Em was the song that lived rent free in my head for most of the year.

Jack White – No Name

Jack White has to be one of the finest guitarists around and No Name is Jack White at his finest. Just playing around, doing what he loves. With powerful riffs driving every song it’s a true testament to authentic rock. That’s How I’m Feeling is my highlight.

Charli XCX – BRAT

There’s not many albums that inspired a social movement but Charli XCX had everyone living their brat summer this year. I had to revisit this album recently to check I hadn’t just got swept up in the craze but no, this album is that good! Whether it’s the upbeat 360 or Mean Girls that infectiously get stuck in your head or the more introspective, stripped back I Think About It All The Time, it’s an incredibly well curated, listenable album that truly defines 2024!
