Who is Gena Rose Bruce?
Melbourne-based Gena Rose Bruce is an artist who places love at the core of her musical expression. She released her debut album Can’t Make You Love Me in 2019, where she ventured into the indie rock realm, crafting a unique sound that transcends conventional labels.
Her ability to explore the various dimensions of love, from its complexities to its vulnerabilities, is what sets her apart and this can be heard clearly in her sophomore album Deep Is The Way, released in 2023 on Dot Dash Records. The album earned the coveted titles of Double J and PBS feature album of the week, solidifying her status in the music industry and Gena later embarked on a nationwide tour with her band, captivating audiences with her live performances.
2023 also saw Gena take on her first international headline tour where she showcased her talent throughout the UK and performed at renowned festivals such as The Great Escape and End of the Road and Reeperbahn Music Festival in Germany. Furthermore, she was nominated for the Best Solo Artist award at the Victorian Music Awards, a testament to her growing acclaim. She also treated her fans to a new EP titled Lighting Up featuring reworked versions of album tracks in collaboration with The Budapest Art Orchestra.
Throughout her career, Gena has shared stages with internationally acclaimed artists like Beck, Paolo Nutini, Kevin Morby, Jaysom and Orville Peck. At the end of 2024 Gena was announced as a finalist in the 2024 APRA AMCOS Professional Development Awards and is currently writing her next album.
