The Entitled Sons – Rockstar
Sometimes these posts just come together and I know exactly where they’re headed in the days before, and sometimes, like this week, they take a little longer to fall into place. Until yesterday, I wasn’t even sure there was going to be a Songs To Brush Your Teeth To this week, I’d gone back and to, adding songs, taking them off, harassing my trusted friends with soundbites to see if something was ‘actually good’ or not. I ended up with 5 songs that were very similar (twice) and was just about to give up when my Spotify algorithm spewed up this catchy track, Rockstar from The Entitled Sons. Something about the fast pace of the opening guitars just made me keep listening. It had a different energy than anything else I’d been listening to, I liked the distinctive vocals and the chorus was just earwormy enough that I was still singing it later than day. And all of a sudden, Songs To Brush Your Teeth To was back in business. I think there’s more international acts and probably some ‘bigger’ acts than I’d usually share in this week’s list, but I’m happy with the vibes and that’s the main thing!
Side notes on Spotify: Yes, I hate it as much as the next person, but right now, there’s no good options rising to the top for me to switch too. I’m seriously looking at Tidal though, so please give me your thoughts if you use it.

Babyshambles – Dandy Hooligan
I’m so excited to see Babyshambles back in business. I love that Peter Doherty brings a different energy to each one of his projects, and this track is no exception being a reggae and ska inspired number. I liked its sense of fun while still retaining Peter’s signature songwriting style and rich storytelling. It’s one of those tracks that just shakes you up a little because of its unique mix of influences and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Daisy Park – On Your Own
I reviewed this EP last week, and I haven’t been able to get title track On Your Own out of my head. I love its shoegaze/indie blend. The song has this great cadence where it just picks up a little before mellowing back out. It’s unexpected, as you assume once the drums speed up, the song is going to move along into its ‘upbeat’ phase, but then it slips back into this dreamy pop vibe and I thought that restraint was really quite lovely.
Interestingly, this track was the only one that survived the round one cull of this week’s Songs To Brush Your Teeth To – let’s call it the indie iteration, and honestly, it was the one pushing me forward to finish this, because it’s a great track and it does deserve to make your playlists this week.

Lexe XO – Aint NVA
These last two tracks were part of the second group of songs I’d pulled together – we’ll call it ‘pop iteration’. I actually loved all the tracks I’d assembled, but on listening to them all together there wasn’t any variety and these two were clearly the strongest (the others might pop up in future editions of Songs To Brush Your Teeth To). I really like Lexe XO’s voice, it’s got a soulful quality whilst also being really suited to the pop music she’s making. Aint NVA has some undertones of R n B in there, a bit of Y2K influence too and it all just falls together into this fun pop number (be sure to check out this video on Insta too, where she covers Ocean Alley’s Mellow Yellow with her band).

Trousdale – The Ick
Trousdale’s The Ick is the most gorgeous soul-pop track. It gives both 70s divas and 90s r n b girl group. It’s such a fun number about turn offs and when a crush goes wrong (and you get ‘The Ick’). The harmonies are lovely, we don’t have enough groups doing this kind of music in 2025. It’s also got this insatiable rhythm, and you’ll be dancing in your seat as you listening along.
