Songs To Brush Your Teeth To is our regular new music update where we bring you five songs to listen to each week – our suggestion is to do that while brushing your teeth so you make new music a good daily habit, but honestly, you can listen whenever you like. We won’t judge.

Read on for this week’s recommendations. There’s a lot of introspection and change in this week’s list. Most of the tracks are deeply personal and almost all see the artists pushing further into a new sound.
Wishlist – Ceilings
Wishlist’s Ceilings was easily the first song I picked for this week’s list. I love its quiet grungy sound, centered around a relentless drum loop and bass guitar before breaking into a jangly piano instrumental section. It’s not in your face, it just quietly draws your attention, pushing at the edges of what you expect it to sound like and is a little rough and ready at times, but that’s what makes it so captivating.

Lara Buchanan – Gold
You know my routine by now, a support act blows it out of the park and they get a spot on the list, and this week it’s Lara Buchanan’s turn. Lara recently supported Aleksiah in Melbourne on her Good On Paper tour and I was absolutely blown away by her incredible vocals and how effortless she made this look.
Gold is about leaving a small town to follow your dreams and the constant pull of wanting to go back to the familiar whilst also knowing you had to leave and trying to embrace your new surroundings. Lara’s story telling is excellent, her vocals are incredibly emotive and you have to hear this track live if you ever get the chance.

Carmon – All My Life
All My Life is the title track from Carmon’s debut album of the same name. All My Life is a deeply introspective track about self-doubt, struggling to trust yourself and ultimately coming to terms with this. Carmon’s crystal clear vocals hold this gentle indie folk/pop song together and it’s one of those tracks that really shows how sometimes keeping things simple is incredibly effective. It’s a great taste as to what to expect from the rest of this album too!

Kaiyah Mercedes – Miss Me
Kaiyah’s latest release Miss Me traces the journey after a break up, from the feelings of self doubt at the start to the recognition that you are enough and the other person should miss you. It leans into a more rock sound with powerful drums and heavier guitars which is the general trend Kaiyah has been taking with her recent releases. I love how you can hear the anger and the strength come through in this track too.

Tig – Alice Says
Tig is one of those songwriters I’ve quietly been following for a while. I can’t remember if she’s featured on this list before but she’s definitely come close.
Her latest release Alice Says see Tig experimenting with more of a punk sound yet still manages to maintain the emotional vulnerability that is so key to much of her songwriting. At its heart Alice Says is a conversation between two selves. It’s a look into the tensions between the desire to pursue a creative career and the fear and vulnerability that can come hand in hand with that
