Review: Daniel’s Donuts

What to order at Daniel’s Donuts.

We were super excited to discover that Daniel’s Donuts had recently opened a branch in nearby Elsternwick and we couldn’t wait to give it a visit. Now we think we’ve got our Daniel’s 6 pack order down pat, so we thought we’d share our favourites. Here’s what we suggest you go for:

1. Jam filled

You can’t beat a good old jam donut. There’s something deeply nostalgic and comforting about it! We love the strawberry iced, but there are also a classic variety and chocolate iced to choose from too.

2. A classic Daniel’s Donut

Classics are classic for a reason. You know what you’re getting, they’re the bread and butter that Daniel’s came up on and they offer a nice balance to their richer more creative options. It’s Hole-y strawberry sprinkles that’s top of our list every time!

3. A ‘New Zealand’ style

Now this might be a controversial opinion but these cream filled donuts are my favourite of all of Daniel’s donuts offerings. They’re so soft and light! Their fresh cream and jam is the signature option, but on this trip, given I’m a huge Black Forest fan, Black Forest flavour easily won out. They impressively manage to capture that true Black Forest balance of sourness coupled with sweet chocolate perfectly into a donut!

4. A chocolatey hit

We always try to get a chocolatey flavour in there. As this was largely ticked off by our Black Forest choice we popped a strawberry M&M donut into the mix this time for just that tiny extra chocolate hit. But otherwise, chocolate sprinkles are the way to go or even choc hazelnut double choc if you really want to ramp up the chocolate!

5. A creative creation

As Daniel’s donuts have grown their flavours have become expansive and more creative. If you’re opting for 6 donuts it’s worth going for something a little different. We like the lemon coconut as it’s fresh and fruity with a generous shot of lemon curd at its centre, and is a great contrast to the more traditional options.

6. A wild card

Finally for our 6th donut we always try to go for a wild card that we haven’t tried before. In this occasion it was ‘the lot’ topped with M&M’s and filled with a gorgeous white hazelnut filling! Its name tells you everything you need to know – it’s a lot! Very yummy but not one you could eat 3 of in one sitting (unlike the Black Forest flavour…)

  1. This is so funny! I actually worked at Daniel’s in Elsternwick when it opened. I did end up leaving due to personal reasons but I’m so glad it’s doing well :))
