Our favourite bagels
A long time favourite of ours, I’m not sure how Bissel B hasn’t made it onto the blog already.(Okay, I do, I rarely bother to take a decent photo of my bagel before eating it).
Anyway, situated on Glen Huntly Road just a minute or so from Elsternwick train station, Bissel B is a popular spot, so you do have to time it right to get a table. Despite its popularity though, there’s never a long wait for your food as the store’s numerous, helpful staff are always on the ball and keen to assist.

We’ve tried much of the menu at this point. Fillings range from the simple – schmear, PB&J etc. to the more fully loaded The Bronx or Wall Street. I love that there’s a range of options depending on how hungry you are, and there’s usually a couple of specials too if you want something a little different. Once you’ve picked your filling, you choose your bagel (poppyseed, plain, everything etc.), pick up a cookie for dessert if you fancy it, and you’re good to go.
Lots of options!
Our favourites have to be the Little Italy (think meatball sub on a bagel) and the New Yorker (think pepperoni pizza on a bagel). For me, they’re both good mid range options – filling, lots of flavour but not as overwhelming as some of the larger bagels – as Bissel B is usually where I visit when I’m not hungry enough for a full meal.

On a day where I am feeling extra hungry I usually opt for the aforementioned Wall Street – a breakfast burger style bagel with sausage patty, bacon, hash brown, cheese, fried egg and tomato relish (if you’re truly wondering how often I go to Bissel B – I reeled off those ingredients without needing to double check the menu). There’s also the Bodega which offers up a lighter ‘breakfast’ option if all that sounds a bit too much.
One final special mention
Final special mention goes to the Brooklyn, a pastrami filled bagel that will hold it’s own against any Reuben in town!
