Spacious BBQ restaurant
Located in Moorabbin, Big Pig Canteen is a spacious warehouse type BBQ restaurant. It’s a popular spot, so despite its size booking is recommended on busier evenings (weekends and such). Its dark, somewhat industrialised interior is reminiscent of Collingwood breweries, and it’s a family friendly venue, so expect lots of little ones around while you’re dining.
The menu was what really drew us to Big Pig Canteen over other similar local venues. Not only is there a good mix of BBQ platter options, chicken and burgers, giving you plenty of choice, it was also affordable, offering great value for what you got – which is so important at the moment.

Great beers on tap
On tap were a good range of local craft beers. We opted for the Stone and Wood pacific ale and the Stomping ground IPA, but it was difficult to choose and it was great to see such a varied selection.

BBQ platters and yummy desserts
From the menu we picked the Family Fun platter. I’m not sure it would feed a family (but then I always think that with ‘family options’ so maybe I’m just greedy) but for the two of us it was the perfect amount. I particularly liked the range of meats: beef brisket, pulled pork, chicken wings and cheese kransky, which meant that it felt varied and interesting. The pulled pork was the highlight, very juicy and tasty, but I also really enjoyed the kransky which had loads of flavour. Chips and Mac and cheese on the side were also great additions!
We finished up with the apple and rhubarb crumble and the Hershey’s chocolate brownie which were both yummy and filling sweet treats to finish up our dinner. Apple crumble is such a comfort food for me, and it was so tasty and a great choice to warm you up on a cold winter evening.
