In Your Absence
At a snappy 15 minutes this 4 track release is a great quick listen. Blending their trademark sound of 2000s emo with just a touch of metal OCHISIA have produced a high energy yet emotional release with In Your Absence.

The EP contains their two previously released singles (Remains of Yesterday and Drenched) and two new tracks – Archangel and Culpability. While each song has its own unique sound – Culpability for example, offers a more stripped back sound with its acoustic instrument choices (think Sum41 style ballad) while Remains of Yesterday showcases a heavier guitar driven emo/punk influence – the EP still manages to sound sonically cohesive.
OCHISIA’s unique musical blend presents a bold challenge — and it’s also one of their most defining traits. You might start off thinking you’re in for a catchy, Green Day-inspired pop-punk track, only to be thrown (in the best way) by a sudden, much heavier shift as the song progresses. It can catch you off guard if you’re not expecting it, but it quickly becomes part of the appeal. What’s impressive is how consistently the band leans into this dynamic. They experiment but never lose their grip on a core sound that feels distinctly their own. As more people discover their music and grow familiar with their evolving style, this fearless approach could become their greatest asset.

Thematically, In Your Absence covers guilt, regrets, mental health and coming to terms with your past. What is enjoyable is the way the songs traverse a range of emotions within this context – they’re angry and sad and optimistic. It’s not an EP that leaves you feeling a particular way, but it’s one that most people will connect with in some way or other. I’d be very keen to see if the band could maintain this on a full album at some point in the future.
