Alexandra Savior – The Mothership
Alexandra Savior dropped her second single of 2025, The Mothership this week (The first, Unforgivable, was released mid-March), further setting the tone for what to expect from her new album Beneath The Lilypad due for release on 16th May (You can presave it here).
What I love about Alexandra is that she’s not scared to sound a little different. On this track it’s the juxtaposition of the heavy guitars against her angelic voice which gives the song something that stands out and is distinctly her sound. You can already feel the vibe of the album from just these couple of tracks.

For me, The Mothership’s opening bars remind me of clockwork between the slightly staccato guitar and the soft percussion underneath. It’s got this driving beat that pushes the track along even though it’s quite a slow paced song. It feels musically a little darker than Unforgivable (even though the subject matter really isn’t) and I enjoy the edgy pulsing rhythm throughout.
Lyrically, it’s a love song which contrasts with the somewhat somber tone of the music. I enjoy the repetitiveness of the ‘Next to You’ throughout and I think it further enhances the slower pacing of the track and the enjoyable dissonance. The song feels like it wants to move forward but lyrically it’s stuck in a loop. There’s a clever depth to this one and I’m excited for the rest of the album.
