The details…
Port Melbourne is busy with people in fitness gear when we arrive early on a Sunday morning, so Acai Brothers’ healthy vibe fits in well, but it’s not just for the obviously health conscious as these guys dished up bowls for everyone from students to paramedics while we we’re there.
Venue wise, they’ve done a lot with a small space. Yes it’s a little squishy when it’s busy, but it’s not somewhere you’d go to sit for hours and relax, the whole brand is revolved around quick, healthy bites on-the-go. Having said that, there’s a cosy corner tucked away at the back, wall mounted benches inside and several outdoor tables so there are a variety of options if you do want to sit in.
Staff are warm and welcoming – you’ll quickly be greeted and they’ll aim to have your fresh healthy choice with you in no time at all! If you’re in an extra rush, check out their app – you can order and pay ahead and just pop in to pick up your bowl (anyone else have those days when that would be PERFECT for your non-existent lunch break). We tried a couple of bowls and a couple of smoothies!
The mango madness was your more traditional fruit laden acai bowl and you can choose 3 additional seasonal fruits to top any of your bowls free of charge. We picked strawberries, apple and watermelon to add to this already fresh tasting bowl. The Ain’t Nothin’ Butter felt naughtier – it wasn’t, even their crunch peanut butter is made in house so they can ensure it’s additive free! It was great to see that the acai wasn’t the main focus in each bowl, we had two very different dishes and there’s definitely more variety that you might expect!
The smoothies were equally as varied: the Berry delicious is very much your traditional tasting kind of smoothie, whereas the lemon meringue was really something else. It had a nice zesty kick and was such a delicious and memorable smoothie! Everything you’ll try at Acai Brothers has a healthy vibe to it – you can smell the freshness from the moment your bowl arrives – and it’ll leave you feeling great afterwards.
