About Mei Semones
Mei Semones’ intro to music came at a time where picking up jazz was a new, exciting school activity. Since then, Mei has developed a deep love for the community and made a commitment to herself to take this new found passion and turn it into her own distinct style. At just 25 years old, Mei has already nailed debut headline shows across Japan, the United States, Europe and the United Kingdom, bringing a balance of intimacy with fullness.
Signing to Brooklyn-based record label Bayonet Records (Beach Fossils), Mei released her debut album Animaru under the label in 2025, and received worldwide recognition for her songwriting that features a seamless, fluttering mix between English and Japanese lyrics.
Through continuously honing in on her signature fusion of indie rock, bossa nova, jazz and chamber pop in a way that highlights her technical prowess on guitar, the 25-year-old is quickly establishing herself as an innovative musical force.
