Friday night brought Kat Greta to St Kilda’s Memo Music Hall for an evening of Rhythm and Reverie as she launches her new single Shoot Me Lover.
There’s just something about Kat that is undeniably endearing. She just gives off that pop star energy. Perfectly navigating the balance between keeping it light and upbeat whilst also sharing moments of genuine vulnerability, she builds a connection with her audience in ways that can’t be taught.

Her night of Rhythm and Reverie was to celebrate the release of her latest single Shoot Me Lover – a fun look at those irks of being in a relationship, and to preempt the future release of her upcoming EP (we put this track on last week’s Take Five). Opening the night with a blasting drum beat, Greta greeted us with the rhythm. We got another stunning display of her percussion talents later in the show too with a fabulous little drumming duet.

The reverie came from Kat guiding us through a selection of her songs, and a soulful rendition of Intoxicated, the latest track from her keyboard player and artist in her own right – Kate Celeste. Kat thoughtfully set the mood for each track and it was fun to see her perform from a variety of spaces on the stage. It’s not easy to make a solo show visually exciting when you don’t have the budget of a megastar but Kat kept the evening fresh and entertaining throughout and it was an enjoyable time. (Bonus points were also awarded because I came home with a free music instrument). You can follow along with Kat here to see what she’s up to and catch her at one of her upcoming live dates, or give her a listen on Spotify here!
Kat’s set was followed by a performance by the incredibly talented Marcelle Phoenix – what a voice!!
