Here in Australia to support The Libertines’ tour , Jon “The Reverend” McClure and his band will be playing a one off show in Melbourne on 16th April that marks the first time they’ve played in Australia in nearly two decades.
Reverend and The Makers, best known for their anthem Heavyweight Champion of the World have seen many iterations over their 20-odd year history with past members including Milburn’s Tom Rowley and ex-Arctic Monkey, Andy Nicholson. Outside of the band, frontman Jon has worked with a wide range of artists including Alex Turner and The Lottery Winners. He is an instrumental figure in the success in many of Sheffield’s local artists and Revs tramlines festival sets are legendary (don’t believe me? Watch this video or this one)

The band have enjoyed considerable success with an impressive unbroken run of top 20 albums since their debut The State of Things back in 2007. Their albums have seen the band traverse a range of different sounds, experiencing both the highs and lows of the music industry along the way. It’s been Jon’s vision, talent and determination that has seen Reverend and the Makers endure. Their more recent work has seen them take a soulful twist and both their last album Heatwave in The Cold North and their most recent single Late Night Phone Call (which raised money for The Samaritans charity) reflect this with softer percussion, saxophones and string sections all getting a feature. I’m excited as it’ll be my first time hearing this new chapter of Reverend and The Makers live and with a new album in the works, I’m hopeful we might even get a sneak peak at the odd new track
