Dutton Garage Cafe – The Overview…
Located inside Richmond’s prestigious Dutton garage you’ll find a buzzing, great brunch spot: Dutton Cafe.
The aptly named Dutton cafe allows you to brunch alongside Ferraris and Lamborghinis. While it runs the risk of feeling like an echoey out of place island, Dutton cafe has done well to feel like a true brunch spot. We were seated towards the back, which is sure helped, but either way it felt a lively and cosy place to grab a bite.
The menu is pretty creative, and it’s clear they want people here for the food just as much as the Cars. We decided to go for a healthy, non healthy and sweet option and sample the green bowl, chicken and waffles and the French toast.
Chicken Waffle
Dishes were well presented with nice colour ranges throughout, and each had its own merits, tailored to the kind of dish it was. The chicken waffle was my favourite. Avoiding the typical syrup drizzle to add the sweetness, the sugary/savoury mix was instead brought out through the sweet seasoning on the chicken and the not overly sugar filled waffle. An absolute stunner of a dish that will remain in my memory for some time. It’s exactly the kind of creative twist that the somewhat tired, post covid Melbourne brunch scene needs.
Healthy Choices
The green bowl was another creative gem with the pickled mushrooms giving a wonderful sour note to the fresh, sweet greenery surrounding it. It felt full and well rounded and was an awesome vegan choice. Filling, yet healthy.
Dessert brunch
The French toast was beautifully presented and despite being golden gaytime flavoured, it wasn’t too overly sweet. There were lots of interesting textures throughout and it oozes glorious nutella from the light, classic toast. It’s an enjoyable sweet brunch and you don’t have to have a sweet tooth to be tempted to try this one.
Everything else…
Dutton is a great place for a unique, memorable 2021 brunch.
