Food and Drink Western Suburbs

Review: Burger Basement, Pascoe Vale

With a good range of simple and more adventurous burgers Burger Basement is your ideal local burger bar!

Burger Basement – The Overview…

Food: Classic Burger, Waffle Fries, Portuguese Flame

The details…

The inside of Burger Basement is bigger than it appears from the front. There’s seats for around 50 people, as well as convenient parking outside for takeaway. The black and brown interior is industrial, without being grungy and it’s a pleasant modern burger joint.

With over 15 burgers on the menu you might find yourself a little spoilt for choice (we certainly were) but prices start at $7.50 so it’s not going to break the bank to come back two or three  (or 15) times to try a few of your top picks. There’s also wraps, salads and a strong offering of sides to give you even more options. While staffed by mostly young servers, with an order at the counter set up, they do a good job! Working hard to juggle delivery, dine in and take away orders, all while taking an interest in customers and ensuring you get your food fairly promptly.

We decided to try the Portuguese flame, the classic, and some waffle fries with cheese. (Although the Aussie and Burger She Wrote we’re very close contenders too). My classic burger arrives looking like a burger emoji – seriously it’s stacked together so well! It also tasted delicious. Patties are quite thick and juicy and are cooked well-done. The salad was fresh and there was a slight sourness from the pickle. Only minor criticism would be I thought there was a little too much sauce, but I am super fussy with sauce so this would probably be a non-issue for most people.

There was plenty of the chicken on the peri-peri burger and it actually felt like a fairly healthy choice. The peri-peri Mayo helped add some much needed moisture, and a touch of creaminess to the spicy burger and helped to enhanced the flavour. There’s a real kick from the jalapeño too! Again there was a good amount of fresh salad and both burgers held together really well inside their pillowy soft buns.

The waffle fries had a lovely seasoning that matched well with the cheese sauce. Without the sauce they still taste great, but are a little less inventive, so well worth choosing to top them with one of the three cheeses on offer to create a more stand-out side dish. The large sides are generous too and more than enough for two people to share with their burgers, (or get a few if you’re feeling hungry)!
