The details…
Anabella is one of those great, local restaurants. It’s got a nice environment, friendly staff and a varied menu – ideally to pop in for a casual dinner. Part restaurant, part take away, -you can also grab food to go – but the seating area is comfortable, nicely separated from the take away counter and they’ve got a liquor license so well worth sitting in if you can spare the time.
We arrived early on a Friday, and while it was initially quiet, there were a consistent turn over of young couples and local families popping in for a meal during our visit. Conveniently located near to the train station and tram line, it’s in such a great spot!
We opted for the tandoori pizza and the anabella pasta, which is chicken, avocado and fresh tomato with a creamy sauce. As well as pizza and pasta dishes there are a range of other mains too. We loved the complementary chips to snack on while we are waiting for our mains, and were delighted with the loaded toppings on our pizza. The tandoori chicken was so soft and full of flavour and while the pizza base was a little bready – for take away style pizza, and the price, it was excellent!
The pasta dish was fantastic and could hold up to what you’d get in many pricier Italian places. It was simple, fresh and unique. The chicken again was very well cooked, and the avocado and tomato are lightly sauteed so they were soft and flavourful, cutting through that creamy sauce for some variety. You can choose your pasta too and they’ve also got a gluten free option.
We loved the choice available at Anabella, and even for dessert there were numerous options. Despite being pretty full, we opted to try the Mars Bar Calzone – both adamant that we’d only manage a mouthful or two, we practically finished it. This was sweet and tasty – I was unsure how taking a traditional savoury dish and making it sweet would work – but it didn’t have any of the blandness I was anticipating and is something I’d order time and again. Rich and gooey and cut into delicate slices, it’s such a moreish dish and an awesome way to end our meal!
