Interview: Tulliah Talks “For Now”, songwriting and what comes next

Naarm/Melbourne songwriter Tulliah recently released her second track of 2025, For Now. We hit up her Insta DM’s for a quick chat about her songwriting process, her latest work and what’s happening for 2026.

Suzie: Thanks so much for chatting with me today. Congratulations on your second single for this year “For Now”. How did it feel putting that out into the world?

Tulliah: Thank you for having me!

It felt amazing! Once you get over the nerves, releasing a piece of work you’re proud of is very nice feeling.

Suzie: I’m glad to hear you’re proud of it. It’s a lovely track. It feels like you’re exploring deeper, more personal themes on your recent work. Would that be fair? And if so, how has that been for you? Does that make it scarier to put out there or is it almost cathartic to be channelling those feelings into music?

Tulliah: Thank you, I’m glad you like it! Yeah, I would definitely say so. I wrote ‘For Now’ a little while ago so I don’t necessarily think about the fact that it was written about my own experience. I had so much fun developing the song and bringing it to life with different elements that it probably distracted me from that personal aspect. I don’t think it’s any scarier to release the song but it’s definitely scary in the initial stages when presenting the song for the first time in its stripped back form 🙂

Suzie: Oh that’s really interesting. I’m glad to hear you had fun creating it. That actually leads really nicely into my next question. So you released your debut album in 2021? And then you’ve taken a break from releasing music until now? Is that right?

I think you’ve sort of answered my first part which is were you still working on music during that time? And how have you found your song writing process has changed between that debut album and now?

I released my first EP early 2021, and started working on this current project towards the end of 2021 through to 2024 🙂 | was writing so much! Some of the songs in this next body of work were written when I was 18 and others when I was 22. When listening to this new project I can personally hear the progress between each track. My process didn’t change throughout but my influences are always evolving and I guess four years is a long period of time to mature and grow.

Suzie: Wow! That’s definitely a long time to work on a project and I imagine your life has changed quite a bit from 18 to 22. Have you been recording the songs across that time period too or just more recently?

I was recording with my friend and producer Dean Tuza for that period of time! It was on and off though due to life and working in between, but it was always a fun and rewarding process 🙂

Suzie: Makes sense! I’m looking forward to hearing the journey on those songs. One final question before | let you go. What does 2026 look like for you musically? I know you performed recently at Abbotsford Convent, are there more live shows on the cards for next year? And I assume you’re hoping to release more tracks from this body of work you’ve been working so hard on?

I’m really excited for 2026!! The Abbotsford Convent show was so much fun. It was a super intimate seated performance. I am currently organising some more intimate shows regionally which is exciting. And yes, lots of new music!!:))

Suzie: Sounds amazing!! Can’t wait to see what you put out.
It’s been so great getting to hear a little more about your recent releases and your musical journey. Thank you again for your time today.

Tulliah: Of course, thank you for having me and for taking the time! Speak soon 🙂
