Eastern Suburbs Food and Drink

Review: Redsar Kebabs, Clayton

Rambos kebabs already has legendary status for Monash students. The perfectly located food truck/shipping container is an easy stumble from their university for some late night eats. They've recently launched their equally legendary HSP burger too.

Rambo’s (now known as Redsar) Kebabs – The Overview…

Food: Gold plated HSP burger, Chicken Kebab with BBQ sauce, chips

The details…

Rambo’s is literally popped on the corner of a petrol station forecourt, but they’re seriously proving that you don’t need luxury premises to do some seriously good food. There is seating too, there’s a small shed to one side and covered outdoor seating to the other. It’s pretty typical Melbourne in that it’s the unassuming, out of the way locations that are creating these unique dishes. Showing how they can do an amazing job, with quite frankly, not an awful lot to work with.

23K Gold HSP Burger Rambo's Kebabs Clayton

The HSP burger is the ultimate late night drunk eat! But it also tastes fabulous at 5pm too and being topped with 23k gold is just an added wow factor! I was worried it would be just a Instagram gimmick or that it would be way too much (I did think it was a burger patty with a HSP added – I was wrong).

Chips Rambo's Kebabs Clayton

It’s actually a HSP – donner meat, chips, sauces, cheese and salad – stacked inbetween a burger bun topped with 23K gold and it’s oh so delicious. The donner is soft and there’s just enough of it to get that meaty flavour without it being a messy disaster. The salad gives it a nice freshness and the melted cheese holds all the elements together just enough to stop the burger disintegrating before your eyes. It was clever, and yummy. It feels like the ultimate cheat meal but in reality it’s really not as guilty a treat as you’d first think.

Chicken Kebab Rambo's Kebabs Clayton

We also managed to squish in some chips and a chicken kebab. As expected, the chicken is full of delicious flavour and while it was definitely a lighter option than the burger it was still huge and so filling! We teamed it with tangy bbq sauce, but your meat/sauce combo options are pretty extensive. The chips had a nice sweetness from the chicken salt and an amazing crisp. They add a nice balance to the strong flavours of the other dishes and are well worth adding on to your meal! We loved what they’re trying to do out here, and located just off North Road, its such an easy spot to stop in on your way home from work, or a day out.
