Review: Sushi Jiro, Box Hill Central

With five locations scattered across Melbourne in all your favourite shopping centres, you really have no excuse not to try out Sushi Jiro’s awesome offerings. A step above your typical takeaway style sushi, Sushi Jiro offer a menu created by highly skilled Japanese masters (with years of training) and filled with affordable, traditional sushi that’s carefully handcrafted with a generous dash of creativity.

Sushi Jiro

We visited their Box Hill Central location in the south precinct, at the heart of its food court oasis of Asian cuisine. You have the options here to either head inside to the main restaurant area with its beautifully designed interior and the always fun sushi boat set up, or if you’re in a bit of a rush, there’s a cute little takeaway station next door stocked with dozens of delicious options.

The takeaway station is a popular option around lunchtime, but staff were highly efficient and always happy to detail the options available. After a little deliberation about the many great looking snacks on offer, we eventually decided to go for a box of the mixed nigiri. We were impressed with the range of takeaway options available, and while we’d always prefer to sit in and dine, we were grabbing this to eat a little later, so it was good to know that we were still provided with plenty of choice.

The nigiri was incredible fresh. The rice was still light, and bonded together well. The fish was a good quality and cut very well. While I enjoyed sampling the range of options they had, the tuna and kingfish really stood out to me and I would be keen to try more of both of these. I actually really want to head back and dine in so I can try more of the range. While it’s not the cheapest sushi you will find, it’s still definitely well in the affordable price bracket, and honestly value for money wise it’s difficult to beat given the quality of their product! We were really impressed with what Sushi Jiro had to offer.
