The details…
Situated in the downstairs Chadstone food court near target, Nene Chicken is a little yellow beacon that stands out against the wall of food vendors. With its own (albeit small) seating – which let’s be honest is a huge plus – it’s almost like a micro restaurant.
On the menu is traditional fried chicken, burgers, tacos and wraps. Sadly when we visited they’d sold out of the burger patties, but we were happy to try their classic fried chicken. It’s always a good way to compare fried chicken places – there’s not much to hide behind with the classics!
The meals are pretty affordable, and we left full afterwards. The original chicken had a nice flavour and the pieces of chicken were big with plenty of actual meat on them. The swicy chicken was a highlight. The sweet sticky sauce was delicious and we were so pleased we tried it. It’s easy to see why it’s their most popular choice. Plastic gloves are provided to protect your fingers, which I’m kind of torn about with plastic waste and all that, but it was a messy meal so I can kind of see why they’re needed!
While food wise it doesn’t quite reach the highs of top fried chicken joints like Gami, we found it to be better value. Staff were friendly and helpful, even helping customers with a pram to safely park it out of the way so they could sit in and enjoy their food. For a quick affordable tasty and filling food court meal, particularly in overcrowded Chadstone, it’s a good choice and well worth checking out!
