The details…
Yarraville local John is the man behind popular Willis and Anderson, an adorable cafe at the end of Yarraville’s Anderson Street. Well supported by the local community, you’ll usually find this place is always a little busy, no matter what time you visit. Although it enjoyed a name change in recent years, Willis and Anderson has been around to watch Anderson Street grow from a sleepy surburb, to a lively and bustling hot spot – placing themselves at the centre of this transformation and becoming almost a Yarraville landmark!
By some magic they have managed to create a relaxed and chilled out vibe despite being on a busy corner opposite the car park. During our visit the majority of customers opted to sit outside and make the most of the autumn sun, including us. We chose our food off the lunch menu, going for the chicken nourish bowl and the Middle Eastern chicken wrap with fries.
The nourish bowl was a nice size with a good balance of salad, chicken and seeds in there. It’s pleasantly colourful, yet we didn’t feel as though things had been added just for the sake of it. Every element added something to the bowl in terms of flavours or textures. The nam Jim dressing was subtle – not too spicy or overwhelming – and it didn’t leave your mouth on fire. The chicken was deceptive. There’s actually a lot of delicious chicken tucked away under the veggies on top once you dig into it. It was a nice protein heavy and filling salad.
The wrap came packed full of Middle Eastern delights. The chicken had a beautiful flavour and we loved the healthy accents of the chickpeas, salad and pumpkin. The feta cheese added a nice creamy moisture to it. Filling, colourful and healthy, this soft, tasty wrap is full of subtle flavours. We paired it with a side of their fries – thin crispy and well flavoured, they are totally worth adding on to any lunch dish.
