$10 lunches at Pran Central

Occupying the corner of Chapel Street and Commercial Road, this small, relaxing shopping centre is in the heart of the Chapel Street shopping precinct. There’s also seating for 250 people, a free Wi-fi charge bar and a large LED screen to show popular events. Food wise there’s plenty of options, from a light juice, to sushi, gourmet foccacias and tasty main meals from a range of cuisines.

Our first stop was O-bun, where you can get a tasty bao bun from just $4.20. We tried the char-siu and the hen’s bun. Great tasting roast BBQ pork and filled with asian slaw and hoisin sauce, the char-siu was the perfect light bite full of flavour, while the hen’s bun comes stuffed with a beautiful serving of fried chicken. There’s bulgogi beef and silken tofu options too!

We then headed over to Sakana’s Japanese for a bowl of their teriyaki chicken and udon noodles (only $9). We enjoyed the rich flavour of the sauce and the wonderfully tender chicken, and the noodles were thick and tasty and perfectly cooked. It’s definitely something we’d love to have for lunch again! There’s also a range of sushi packs available at Sakana’s so make sure you check them out too.

Finally we visited Simply Indian for what we found to be the most filling $10 lunch deal on offer. Their 2 curries and rice for just $9.90 will easily keep you going until dinner time. Their mild curries are catered to suit even those with the most sensitive taste buds, and then for the spice fiends you can ramp it up to a medium masala or a hot vindaloo. If you want something to eat on the go try their chicken tikka wrap instead.

If none of our choices take your fancy, why not try a gourmet foccacia with salad from Sugar Bowl, or a freshly baked artisanal sandwich with fillings made from scratch at Sandwich Chefs, both offering various choices for under the $10 mark.
