The World Rice Festival
…and it’s more than just a food festival, it’s a rich celebration of diversity through rice culture (obviously they’ll be plenty of yummy food there too!)
This City of Melbourne sponsored event is free entry, but you’ll want to make sure you bring some $$ to enjoy the offerings from some of the curated food stalls selected to be a part of this year’s festival. Highlights include Festival favourites, Hoy Pinoy’s flame grilled meat skewers with rice, award-winning Paella specialists, Lady Paella’s renowned Seafood Paella and Asian fusion experts Red Spice Road’s exclusive World Rice Festival menu, including their much-loved pork belly, accompanied with red rice vinegar, chilli caramel and a puffed wild rice salad.
For those of you with a sweeter tooth, you certainly aren’t being left out. Choose from Rice Paper Scissors’ Mango Sticky Rice Dessert, The Brulee Cart’s torched Thai Rice Pudding and ChilliBro Paletas frozen treats on a stick to name a few. All in all there’s over 20 food trucks to choose from, spanning over 15 different cuisines – that’s got our mouths watering just thinking about it!
In addition to sampling great food inspired from cuisines all over the world, there will be cultural performances, live music and cooking demonstrations to complete the festival. If you’re visiting on Saturday be sure to see the special presentation from The Sound of Shadows at 1pm, although keep your eyes (and ears) peeled for a range of drumming and dance performances spanning the whole weekend.
