The details…
Don’t be deceived by the narrow street and the classic gold accented windows. While externally the cafe mimics the more old-fashioned facade of the surrounding area, inside hides a bright, modern cafe with an adorable outdoor courtyard.
We were impressed by the variety of dishes on the menu, and we settled into the soft chatter and light background music of the cafe for a relaxing brunch. Despite not having our booking, staff quickly accommodated us and went to every effort to have a unique chat with every customer who visited – regulars and newbies alike – and we really liked the welcoming feel to the place.
While tempted by the large number of cakes, pastries and sandwiches in the counter, we settled for the vegan bowl, eggs benedict and the hotcakes. The vegan dish – a switch up from the long standing previous vegan euphoria, was a big serve filled with lots of greenery and a great bit of moisture added by the pumpkin puree. The beetroot chips made the dish, giving it that stand out bit of crunchy and earthy flavour and I’m glad there were lots of these on top.
The eggs benedict was a small neat dish, piled high with plenty of juicy pulled pork though it still made for a filling brunch. The home made potato rosti had a fab crisp and the sriracha hollandaise pulled everything together into a tasty brunch classic. We loved that, while putting a slight twist on it, they didn’t deviate too far from those traditional flavours making for an enjoyable, uncomplicated benny experience.
Finally we finished with the hot cakes. The hotcakes themselves are individually quite small and thick, but have the light, soft cakey texture. You definitely don’t have time to get bored with this dish with icecream, chocolate drizzle, berries, popcorn and sprinklings of chocolate soil and freeze dried raspberries. Every mouthful was interesting, sweet, without feeling like a dessert and it was another example of Chapter Three’s ability to provide creative and interesting dishes that still remain rooted in the more simplistic ones you’ve loved for years!
