The details…
Despite looking like it occupies a huge unit in South Melbourne, 11 inch pizza is deceptively small and actually quite intimate inside, perfect for solo diners and small groups, whereas the larger tables on the street out front offer the ideal environment for larger parties. We were warmly welcomed by Sam who maintained a friendly and attentive service throughout our stay. He was keen to make it memorable, and despite us being sat outside, all staff were really on the ball.
We tried a range of pizzas, pasta and other dishes from the menu starting with a garlic foccaccia. This was really soft and yummy and we loved how it was cut into small pieces making it ideal to tear and share. It had lots of flavour and was a great way to start the meal. We paired this with the salad, which was a little simple, and while we felt the rest of the menu was very affordable, this seemed a slightly overpriced for what was actually on offer.
The pizzas looked tasty, and had a nice flavour balance with chunky toppings. They’re true to the name and are quite big, so offer really good value and could easily be shared if you’re not too hungry. The pizza base was good, light and thin, but didn’t hit the highs of the foccacia. Just a few small tweaks with these will make them really amazing but as of right now, they’re not quite as good as their sister restaurant in the CBD. The other dishes on the menu however, were great, and we felt this was a really big plus point for them, making a good choice to please the whole family.
The ribs, somewhat ironically, were a huge highlight for us. The meat was very juicy and they had a fab sticky flavour and served with a good portion of crunchy coleslaw and corn. The pasta was generous, and while it was a simple dish it had a nice creamy flavour and was a great contrast to pizza – I thought this was a really good choice for their menu. Finally we ended with the chocolate dessert pizza – I like how this isn’t drizzled with chocolate, and was instead just a taste of sweetness to end our dinner!
