The details…
With phone ahead pre-orders available, I don’t know why everyone frequenting Ripponlea Station isn’t already on to this new Burger Bar – it’s the perfect cheat meal on your way home from work! While it’s only a tiny cafe, there’s seating for about 15 people, its cute red and white “diner” vibe and spotless interior make it ideal for a quick bite. There’s also parking right outside so it’s easy to drop in for take away.
Offering no less than 14 burgers – I mean this place has a “chicken burger” section on its menu – there is so much choice, with the added option to load up your burger. While it’s an order-at-the-counter, take away style venue, staff were lovely and did take the time to enquire how our meals were and have a chat with us, which I thought was a really nice touch and something you wouldn’t usually see. If you eat in, burgers are nicely presented in baskets and they’re a really good size. We went for the Mac n cheese and the Kevin Bacon with chips on the side.
The wagyu beef patties were well seasoned and both our burgers were creative and tasty. My mac n cheese burger was huge and it held up really well (despite my best efforts to dismantle it as it was too big to fit in my mouth!). I liked the generous serve of fresh salad which helped keep that traditional burger vibe despite the creative twists. And though I’m definitely more of a fries kinda girl, there is no denying that their seasoned chips retain the perfect crisp and have a ton of flavour!
The Kevin Bacon makes less of a pretension of healthy eating and is an abundance of cheese, sweet maple bacon and topped with a fried egg and potato fries. This is a real junk food goal and was unlike any other burger we’d tried. We’d definitely love to head back to try some of their other options – particularly the chicken or veggie burgers.
