Set in a shopping precinct, across the road from Epping Plaza, Nu healthy cafe benefits from a huge, spacious unit. The pleasant atmosphere with clean, white tables and an ideal amount of space for large groups will quickly take your mind away from the car park views. The large windows let lots of light in, and even on the cold winter day that we visited, they still managed to keep the vast space toasty and warm.

We tried various items from their breakfast menu, including the sweet potato, smashed avocado, chilli eggs and pancakes. We loved the creative ways they tried to cram as much fruit and veg into the dishes, in particular the addition of tomatoes to the chill scramble. It brought a refreshing taste to this lightly spiced scramble.

The sweet potato was a very well balanced dish. It was really smooth and was a good portion. The sour feta contrasted nicely with the sweet potatoes and the eggs and bacon just rounded out the dish. Nu serve beef bacon, which is a little different. It’s great if you want to add a little meat to your plate, but for someone like me who isn’t a big meat eater it didn’t taste enough like bacon for me and I probably wouldn’t try it again! MB on the other hand quite enjoyed it.

The protein pancakes came with a deliciously generous topping of fruit, and the 5 pancake option was definitely filling for us. The thin pancakes are surprisingly tasty given it’s a fairly simple dish.  They look great with the maple syrup in the centre to drizzle over, and they don’t strike you as a “healthy” dish when you’re eating them.

We also tried one of their bowls – which are create your own, with a vast variety of options. The chicken was delicious, so much flavour and perfectly cooked – it’s exactly what you need in one of the nourish bowls, as they can quickly become bland and that chicken was just a pop of tastiness! The tumeric cauliflower was a little hard, but we enjoyed the rest of the veggies – particularly the broccoli!

Finally our meal was finished off with a couple of their smoothies – the pina colada and berry bliss and some of their great, great coffee! The pina colada smoothie was delicious – very sweet, creamy and refreshing. The berry smoothie was a little thick but still a delightful flavour and both were an ideal complement to complete our health focused feed.
