The details…
Georgie Porgie is an all day eatery on Bentleigh’s Centre Road – offering breakfast and lunch menus and burgers from 11:30am. We visited in the evening to try some of their burgers for dinner. The cafe was deserted when we arrived and remained fairly empty for most of our visit. We did visit early, around 6pm, however, it was a shame as it did make the cafe feel a little flat. I can image on busier days there is much more of an atmosphere. It’s a bright cafe, just about funky enough to have a cool vibe, but not feel out of place in suburban Bentleigh.
We ordered the King George’s Feast Burger, the BBQ Porgie’s Chicken Burger and Loaded fries with beetroot hummus and feta. The burgers looked amazing and were simple but nicely presented. The patties aren’t too greasy and are well cooked. The balance of toppings was great and the burgers held up pretty well despite being quite full. They are a step down from your crazy loaded burgers but while they don’t look quite as insane, they make for a more enjoyable eating experience. I loved the toppings on the loaded fries and thought these were really different. They just had a little too much cheese beneath the other toppings which had melted, sticking most of the chips together. Still enjoyable but slightly trickier to eat.
Service was very friendly and efficient however, I just felt there needed to be a little more consistency with this. We were asked to order at the counter whereas the two tables who arrived after us received full table service. It’s quite a casual eatery so I don’t think it matters which option Georgie Porgie choose (I would have been happy with the service had I not seen the service received by others). They just need a “one for all” policy on this as it seems a little rude, especially as the table near to us received detailed information about specials that we weren’t told about. Georgie Porgie do a lot of things very well, and they are by far the best option for burgers in the area so definitely worth a visit, however, I hope they can tighten up the service to ensure that customers will keep coming back to them time and time again.
