Dashing Donuts has opened on Chadstone’s ground floor just around the corner from the Apple store, and in keeping with most of Chadstone’s food establishments it’s a cut above your usual mall food. Dashing Donut’s is strictly a take away place, no seating here, but who cares, I don’t really want to sit on the overcrowded walkways of Chadstone and eat anyway. Offering my favourite Code Black Coffee, it’s an ideal place for a caffeine and sugar pick me up.
They make Italian Bomboloni style donuts, along with traditional style donuts with some creative flavours. All donuts are handmade from scratch (even the dough) so no preservatives here! The donuts are a little more chewy and dense than what you would typically get, with more of a sticky sweetness than an intense sugar hit! They have more of a European pastry vibe, and feel like an indulgent treat.
The flavours range from the traditional: jam filled, custard filled, glaze, to the creative: lemon meringue, salted blueberry and tim tam so there really is something to please everyone. I loved the traditional jam filled one and felt you really got to enjoy the gorgeous dough with this one. The salted blueberry one is cool and creative – probably not for everyone, but another one I particularly enjoyed. The lemon meringue was an unexpected pleasure, with two halves of a doughnut sandwiched with lemon curd under a topping of meringue. However, this was a little messy to eat and a little less meringue would probably help (don’t order this one if you plan to eat it whilst wandering through Chadstone – unless you’ve got wet wipes and a spare top at hand).
Overall, we loved these donuts. Having tried probably most of Melbourne’s doughnut scene, I was amazed that these were something different. Their packaging is super cute and they offer good value and choice. Well done Chaddy on another excellent food outlet. Thanks to Dashing Donuts for the invite, helping me to survive my Christmas shopping!
