The Overview…

Will’s Batch is Bentleigh’s long standing, small batch ice creamery!

The Details…

I don’t think many people living around Bentleigh are unaware of Will’s Batch. Firstly, it’s next door to Nando’s; secondly it’s one of the only places to get ice cream, and thirdly – the ice cream is pretty awesome.

Open a little over 5 years now, it’s become a popular go to for Bentleigh’s many families and they do so much more than just ice cream: sundaes, shakes, spiders, ice cream sandwiches… “ice cream parlour” is underselling this great dessert bar. The ice creams are small batch and hand made from scratch – meaning there’s always new creations coming out. But don’t worry, Will’s Batch aren’t one of those flavour-a-minute places, they’ll still have your old favourites around with a few new options to keep things interesting. As well as their range of ice creams, they have vegan-friendly sorbets, and plenty of gluten free, egg free and kosher options – so they’ve got almost all dietary requirements catered for. Their ice creams (and sorbets) are full of different colours and textures. It’s really hard to choose.

WillsBatch_20180104_0010We both went for waffle cones, M.B. in his usual childlike manner went for rainbow and blueberry lemonade – which I had to admit looked kind of cool. I went for strawberry cheesecake and lemon and lime ripple sorbet. I love it when ice cream is interesting to eat, and the strawberry had lots of cheesecake chunks and ribbons of strawberry flavour in a smooth ice cream, while the lemon and lime was a mix of creamy sorbet and tangy fruit flavours. The rainbow ice cream is actually a mix of three different flavours, not just cleverly placed food dye like I assumed, and I thought that was pretty neat. It shows the kind of dedication put into Will’s Batch ice creams when they go to that much effort for a flavour mostly preferred by the under 10s (and my boyfriend) who pick it purely for the cool colours. His sorbet was such a vivid blue as is typical of many of their sorbets which are full of bright colours and fresh flavours.

WillsBatch_20180104_0017What I really liked was how Will’s Batch Bentleigh felt like a cafe, not just a take out place. You can sit away from the displays and enjoy your ice cream if you like, and being set off Centre Road means it’s still quiet if you choose to sit outside. The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming or helpful, and I can never get over how generous the portions are. They offer really good value! Here’s waiting for that next 40 degree day so I have the perfect excuse to go back. Thanks for having us Will’s Batch.
