Nostimo is really little more than a take-away burger bar on Elsternwick’s Glenhuntly Road, however, with friendly staff and a few comfortable tables it offers a great casual dining experience. The decor is fairly simple, with a few bright touches which give it character.
We visited early in the week, and while we were the only ones “dining in” there were a steady stream of customers coming in for takeaway. We were warmly welcomed and given plenty of time and space to decide what we wanted. Food was brought to our table and really nicely presented with the burgers coming on wooden boards and skewered to help hold them together. It definitely looked like something you could be presented with in a restaurant. Tables had napkins and condiments too which was another nice little touch.
We opted for the double cheese burger and the southern fried avo. Burgers definitely come fully loaded and they offer a good choice, from the simple to the more adventurous. M.B. liked his double cheese burger – the patties were well cooked and he enjoyed the flavours. I thought my southern fried avo (this has fried chicken on it as well as avo by the way) also had lots of flavour. The chicken had a nice kick and I enjoyed the addition of avocado as something a little different. We also tried The Italian chips which had a nice flavour, but there seemed to be more toppings than chips at times; with a little more balance this could be a great dish.
They are nice burgers but are definitely junk food goals. They are huge. We both struggled to finish them and this wasn’t helped by the fact the buns fell apart very quickly which was a little disappointing. Overall, while I found the meal enjoyable, my main issue would be it’s just a little overpriced. It’s well worth a try though for somewhere different, and you definitely won’t leave hungry!
