V.melb is South Yarra’s new Vegan eatery. It’s not big – it’s much more a blink and you miss it kind of place, but it definitely packs a punch and probably offers one of the best food variety to square metre ratios in Melbourne. V is really little more than a fridge and a counter. They do have some stepped seating just inside but it will really only seat one or two groups of people, so visit being aware it’s more of a takeaway venue. However, inside is light, modern and addition to detail has gone into the fit out despite its small size. The staff are so friendly, and more than happy to talk you through their menu items so you can choose something you’ll really enjoy.
Now I’ve said this before, I’m not a vegan advocate, given I already have to restrict my diet due to allergies, so while I enjoy veggies, I’m not looking to restrict my diet any further, and I do enjoy a good steak – therefore you know if I’m saying positive things about a vegan place it must be great. I decided to sample a green smoothie, I wish I’d taken a photo of the ingredients as there were so many – but I remember spinach and banana featured heavily, and despite it being a little thick and taking me ages to drink, it tasted amazing and I felt so energised after drinking it. I also opted for a granola pot, and a quinoa burger. The granola pot was the perfect, healthy takeaway breakfast with enough different layers to keep it tasty and interesting. The quinoa burger was surprisingly so full of flavour and had a great texture. I’d definitely go back for another.
Conveniently located just 5 minutes walk from the train station, V. Melb is an ideal stop off to grab a healthy breakfast for your morning commute or a healthy burger to curb the weekend hang over. Whatever you choose you can guarantee it’s going to taste great and probably make you feel pretty good too.
